After just barely missing it on two previous visits to Paris, I finally made it to celebrate French Independence Day in the city! I cannot believe it, stills feels a little unreal.
We went to watch just a little of the traditional morning parade featuring scores of military soldiers in their appropriate uniforms and chanting their songs + hymns. It was beautiful to see everyone cheer them on as they turned the corner.
My mom got a giant meringue that was the size of her face.
The fireworks were pretty tricky to navigate, the recommended spot is the lawn at Champs de Mars but we didn’t quite want to camp out all day, especially with the possibility of rain and our severe jet lag from a long layover in Iceland. We opted to take our chances and did pretty okay at Trocadero along with hoards of others. Sadly, a guy raised up and recorded the entire show with his phone three people in front of me. Somewhere I’m sure you can see his masterful work on youtube. Don’t be that person. Please. We were packed in so I couldn’t shift my view very much. Regardless, this was the bets fireworks display I’ve ever sen in my life (and I worked at both Disney parks in FL + CA!) There is just no comparison to the beauty of the Eiffel Tower along with the colorful beams and explosions of color in the sky. Several traditional and classical songs mixed in with some Coldplay, Bjork, Beatles + Chris Brown. A little of everything made for a perfect show.
Thoughts and prayers are with the victims of Nice, we found out about the news as we started to walk back to our flat. Such tragedy in a time of such celebration.
This was my small experience… all shot on Lilly the Leica (M240)
